Startup Law Practice Thrives in Executive Space

Last August Essita Duncan parted from her previous employer and started her own practice—The Duncan Law Firm. In order to build her practice, Duncan hoped to find an office space that was close to the DC Courts, close to her home, and close to the Metro. After doing an Internet search of available office spaces, Duncan learned of the executive office space model and was instantly hooked.

The current home of The Duncan Law Firm—at 10 G Street NE, Suite 710—was the first and only office Duncan toured. “I walked in and really liked the space, so I didn’t look any further,” said Duncan, whose firm specializes in probate law.

Upon deciding to reside her practice in an executive office space suite, Duncan’s transition “has been a wonderful experience,” she says.

“This office model made it easier to transition and open my own practice because I didn’t have to worry about coming up with the money for my own space or for reception staff,” said Duncan. “It’s like having a permanent space with my own staff, without all the headaches of a start-up.”

Since Duncan has found this model to be very cost effective, she has been able to spend money in other places in order to further grow her firm.

Duncan believes that this office model is ideal and easy for anybody starting his or her own practice. “It makes the transition easy, there is a low start up cost, you don’t have to worry about staffing, and you can simply focus on a building your practice,” said Duncan.

Duncan also believes that the office she chose gives her clients the impression that her practice has been established for a while. “When clients come in they often mention how they are impressed with the office space and how professional everything looks,” she said. “They really appreciate how they can just come in during their lunch break [since the space is so conveniently located].”

“The cost is great, the location is great. It just works. It all just works,” said Duncan.
